Ever get caught in the rain and end up with soggy soaked shoes and everything inside is all mushy and wet? Eww right? And when you try to dry them they take at least 1 whole day under the sun to dry. We Malaysians are facing the monsoon season of the year so it is close to impossible for us to rely on the Sun to dry our shoes in time. If you use shoes for running with flat feet, then you might be in luck for apparently, such shoes dry better and quicker. So here are a few ways to help you dry your shoes quicker!
1. Using a clothes dryer
Now, if you’re one of those fancy people with clothes dryers in their house, did you know that you can dry your shoes in the dryer? Please check your shoes to make sure that the material used is suitable for drying in the clothes dryer beforehand though. But if your shoe is suitable, such as cotton or synthetic and are made without hard or gelled soles, you can hang your shoes by the shoelaces inside the dryer so that it doesn’t ruin your dryer or your shoes. Put your shoes next to each other and hang the shoelaces outside of the dryer. Some people might not like this idea due to hygiene reasons but desperate time calls for desperate measures.
And that’s how you do it! Simple right? But what if you don’t have a dryer in your house?
2. Use a fan or hair dryer
So you don’t have a dryer eh? Don’t worry. Find a sturdy fan, either a stable floor or table fan yeah? Don’t hang your shoes from the ceiling fan please! So now that you’ve got your fan, find a metal coat hanger and cut it in half. Once that is done, shape the two hanger pieces into an S shape and hang in at 11 and 1 on the fan, it should allow you to hook your shoes onto them. Once that is done, untie your shoe laces and open up your shoe so that more air can enter. Then, hang the shoes on top of the hooks and make sure that the hooks are strong enough so that your shoes do not fall off. Place newspaper underneath the fan where your shoes are and wait patiently for 2 hours, once you’re back home it should be all nice and dry! If it’s still not dry enough to your liking, you can always use your hair dryer for some finishing touch!
3. Using Newspaper

Don’t have a dryer or a table fan? Or maybe you just prefer a method that’s more delicate on your shoes. Regardless of why you’re doing this, all you need is some newspapers and a rubber band. So what you do here is make sure that the shoe is empty and that there is nothing inside the shoe, including the insoles. Once that’s done, grab a piece of newspaper and make it into a ball for each shoe and place it inside the shoes. Next, take another thicker piece of newspaper and wrap it around your shoes then tie it down with rubber bands and you’re done! Remember to check in on your shoes and regularly change the newspaper on the inside of your shoes every 30 minutes and they’ll be dry in no time!
Personally, I like to combine tip 2 and 3 and hang my shoes on the fan while changing the newspapers on the inside every 30 minutes for maximum efficiency. With all these tips, I hope you will all have dry shoes and no longer have to wait a day before you can wear your fancy shoes again!
