With SPM and final semester fast approaching, students are in their final leg of their respective courses and while staying motivated may be easy for certain students, others may have to work a little bit harder to retain certain information. Study habit helps to avoid panic and frustration. Besides, finding an effective study habits will also help to get better grades. The key to effective study isn’t about the hours spent with your books, rather the quality and method used will set you apart from your peers. Here are some effective study tips that can help those who are still finding their style of studying effectively:
1) Find a study area
The place where you study is important. A place with a lot of distractions make a poor place to study. Places like living room should be avoided; computer or TV will be more interesting than your actual reading material. An ideal study spot should be quiet and peaceful. A library or a quiet coffee house are good places to check out. Make sure there is a clear workspace or table to study and writing. Apart from that, make sure you feel comfortable and able to focus. The study area in depending on yourself. Some may like quiet place, and some may like background music.
2) Organize a study plan
A study plan is a comprehensive version of a timetable. A study planner can help us to set targets, prioritized items and draw an effective goal. We also can think about what needs to be accomplished and time needed in a study plan. We can set a specific goal for each study session such as how many of topics to cover by the end of the day. Analyze what are the questions and topics that will be cover in the test.
3) Group study
Study together with a group of classmates will encourages an interactive environment to keep you focus. It is also a great chance to test your knowledge by giving each other impromptu quiz. Besides, your classmates can help you on the content that you are not familiar with. As long as you make sure you will stay focused on the topic group study is also another effective study plan. Do take note that a group of 4-5 people is perfect. A large group may brings distraction.
4) Create your own style of notes
Simplify your study notes or create your own style of notes to make you memorize them easily.
Underline or highlight the key words, or create visual aids like mind maps, flow charts, diagram etc. Organize and simplify the information can help you memorize them better. Also, writing your notes can help you to form better memory.
