It doesn’t matter if it’s physical, psychological or even cyberbullying.
Bullying is one of the main concerns of our generation. With the exponential growth of technology, the rates of cyberbullying have been on the rise.
Bullying is something that can happen anywhere, anytime and to anyone. One of the factors that contribute to the deterioration of their mental health. Most people have been bullied at least once in their lives. But what are some ways we can deal with this?
Here are 5 ways that can help you or someone you know who is being bullied:
1. Talk To Someone You Trust
This might or might not be one of the hardest things to do, but keep in mind a handful of friends that you fully trust and love and tell them individually how you feel and what you’re going through. Don’t give up! If you realise no one is helping you, extend that list. There is always someone out there that will help you.
2. Be the better person
Although it’s not easy, it’s always good to stand up for yourself. Bullys feed of the weakness of their victims. They would test the waters to ensure that their victim will not stand their ground or tell anyone which contributes to consistent bullying You could counter this by Uttering out loud what you dislike the bully doing to you. If it’s constantly kicking you in the leg, then stand your ground and say something along the lines of, “I want you to stop kicking my leg! I know it’s funny to you, but it’s not funny at all to me”.
3. Stay calm
The bully feeds off the victims anger, so don’t give that to them! They want you to elicit a response. No matter what the bully says, try your best to stay calm. Don’t respond in the heat in the moment. This also applies in the online world. If someone is using social media as a means to bring you down. Let them be! They’re only destroying themselves.
4. Inform someone older
Whether it’s your mother or brother or anyone older for that matter that can help you out. It could be your favourite classroom teacher. Narrow that list down and tell them what’s happening and ask for their help. The bully might stop upon knowing that the teacher or parent knows because they’re afraid of getting in trouble.
5. Be The Better Person
Remember that it’s never your fault that all these are happening to you. Most of these bullies have either been bullied before or are dealing with abuse at home. These tips might or might not help you but it’s important to not give up and be consistent.
