Hold your horses (literally) because a film about a doctor talking to animals will be hitting the theatres on 17 January 2020 with an all-star casts.
Starring Robert Downey Jr, Antonio Banderas, Emma Thompson, Rami Malek, Octavia Spencer, Tom Holland…. The list is just too long to put here!
Dolittle is based on a children’s book on a doctor who develops skills by talking to animals. The Dolittle series has been made into films several times. Here are 5 fast facts about the Dolittle film.
1. Released Date Was Pushed Back Several Times
Universal Pictures, whom will be distributing this, initially planned the film for release on 12 April 2019, before pushing it back to 24 May 2019. The reason for this was to avoid competition with Avengers: Endgame and Aladdin. It was finally settled on 17 January 2020. This date is particularly in favor for Dolittle, as the United States will be having a four-days holiday weekend, with little cinematic competition for that month.
2. Undergone Extensive Reshoots
In April 2019, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Dolittle had undergone 21 days of reshoots. And not just any reshoots. The reshoots were extensive! This was due to negative test screenings.
This was done by bringing in a new director Jonathan Liebesman (who directed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). The reshoot lasted 21 days.
3. A Very Expensive Budget
Because this film uses a lot of CGI, visual and special effects, it is no surprise that the budget is through the roof. The budget for the film stood at $175 million! And that is NOT including the reshoots!
4. A Star-Studded Film
This film has all ALL-STAR Cast. Literally everyone in Hollywood. Emma Thompson, Selena Gomez, John Cena, Tom Holland, Octavia Spencer, and Rami Malek! Literally shocked by just looking at the cast!
5. Robert Downey Jr.’s First Non-Marvel Movie
After a long time, that is. Tell me, when was the last time you saw an RDJ movie that IS NOT a Marvel-related movie?
Cementing his role as Iron Man aka Tony Stark has literally make himself as “Tony Stark/Iron Man” when you see him. His last non-Marvel movie was The Judge In October 2014. Others include Sherlock Holmes 1 & 2, with a 3rd film being in pre-production and set for release on December 2021.
Nevertheless, this will be his first gig post, Iron Man. Let’s see whether it will work out
