So, we all know the popular question that gets thrown around like a ball before mealtimes- “Where to eat?”. If you are from Kuching and you are put in that spot, scroll on down because this could be your saving grace!
So, we’ve thought about this long and hard. Knowing that sometimes East Malaysians just don’t get as much love and media coverage that it deserves, we decided to whip out this list of 5 local artisanal eateries in Kuching of Stardom (with the help of a local insider, that is. You can thank us later!).
Not only these F&B joints were made with passion and skill, but they are also fresh and vibrant as they are founded by young entrepreneurs! We don’t know about you but we sure did had a good time experiencing them, so here it is:
1. NOMS Malaysia

Sandwiches, Burgers, Pastas, Fries, and Fried Chicken, you name it, they have it! Their menu is carefully curated to satisfy your every cravings! NOMS is bound to guarantee you satisfaction. Among their best-sellers are the Grilled Mac & Cheese, Chili Beef Fries, Sticky Wings and Burgers!
We hear your tummies rumbling, so head on over to any of the NOMS outlets to nom-nom-nom on their mouth-watering dishes!

2. Peanuts & Anchovies
28-year-old Ardeles Phua, the genius behind the well-loved Peanuts & Anchovies Nasi Lemak continues to wow his fans by a simple yet irresistible plate of Nasi Lemak.
Perfect for every occasion, breakfast, lunch or dinner, this nasi lemak will be your best gastronomical reward. Served with white rice is the condiments of halved hard-boiled eggs, fried anchovies, cucumber slices, with a piece of tasty marinated chicken fried to perfection and the most fragrant sambal stealing the show! We could have this every day!

3. Taco Ragut

Made with lots of Taco love to Ragut your heart, Taco Ragut is founded by 27-year-old Taufikh, a young and enthusiastic Mexican food lover. After returning to Kuching as a chef from New Zealand, his Mexican craving was the driving force behind the creation of the gripping Mexican menu consisting of Chicken and Prawn Tacos, Cheesy Beef Doritos Tacos and Jalapeños wings, with the Chicken Taco being the top hit!
This fun wrap is made of tortilla and garlic aioli loaded up with cajun marinated chicken, paired up with slaw and luscious tomato salsa. All that from scratch! Hit them up and share some Taco love with a friend to taste what we’re Taco-ing about!

4. Manok Beast
You’ll probably be wondering what Manok Beast is all about. ‘Manok’ simply means chicken in the local Sarawakian Malay language, so there we have it – The Chicken Beast.
Dabush Kamarudin, aged 28, sure knows the recipe to the Spicy Popcorn Chicken that will not disappoint – Fresh manoks, Spicy Garlic Mayo, Cheesy sauce and a dash of Dabush himself will make you a fan of his delicious Fried Manoks as well as the cook himself! CatfFn, founded by Keith Chin who may only be 25, but nothing is stopping him from taking his convictions of serving only the best coffee to the next level! CatFin is proud to be the first and only mobile espresso bar in Kuching. Serving coffee made from the freshest coffee beans in town, paired with their popular moist brownies, there you have your perfect wake-me-up combo!
