Soooooo you just signed up for your driver’s license but you’re still unsure of the process between you (person with no license) and the end goal (person with a sexy looking license that allows you to drive on the street without getting arrested). Very nice. Maybe you forgot to ask, maybe the instructor wasn’t too clear. But not to worry though. today we’re here to clear things up with 5 steps you’ll have to take before you get from sad friend with no license to person with good looking friend with brand new license.
Step 1:
Well, the first thing on the list is to properly “edu-ma-cating” yourself on the laws of the road. And to do that, assuming that you’ve just signed up to a driving school in Malaysia, you’re required to take a trip to a designated circuit and take part in a 6 hour seminar (KPP01) that teaches you about laws of the road, along with a Q and A session at the end to help you better understand these vital laws. Don’t want you getting into trouble now, do we? Now if you didn’t sign up with a driving school, you can always pop by a driving course and tell them that you would like to partake in the seminar, you are however required to pay a small fee to learn about everything you need to know about driving on the road.
Step 2:
Woah there! Slow down! The next step before you start driving on the road is to first pass the “undang” test, which consists of 50 multiple choice questions, but fear not! You’re allowed to take exam in either English or Bahasa Malaysia and have the option to resit for the exam on the same day if you so wish. And once you’ve aced the test, you’ll have to wait for about 1-2 weeks for the processing of your Learner’s permit ( L license )
Step 3:
Now that you’ve got your L license *congratulations btw* you can finally get on the road. First, you’re going to have to complete 5.5 hours of on the road driving where you’ll learn how to drive a little and learn more about your car (it’s part of the exam). Once you’re done with that, you can move on to another 10 hours of learning how to drive, so that way you’ll finally be ready for the big scary main roads. Remember, you can only drive with the instructor in the car, so be sure to set up an appointment with your instructors!
P/S, remember to bring along your L license or else you won’t be allowed to drive!
Step 4:
Now that you’ve got your lessons in, it’s time to head to the circuit and master the arts of driving! In the circuit you’ll learn things from how to do 3 point turns to S turns and Z turns. Next, you’ll have to partake in an exam held by the head instructor of the circuit to determine whether or not you’re qualified to take the exam examined by the real JPJ tester. The QTI test (Preliminary Driving Examination) takes 30 minutes. Remember to dress well as there is a dress code!
Step 5:
Now, you’re ready! It’s time finally time to take the exam and ace it, when you take the exam remember to keep calm and collected and remember all that you’ve been taught. You’ll have to do the circuit and drive on the road, and when all that is said and done, you’ll know if you’ve passed or not. But if things go well, CONGRATS! YOU’VE DONE IT! YOU CAN NOW DRIVE! (you still have to wait for your driving school to actually register you and wait until you got your P license) Remember to put the P sticker on the front and back window of your car or you’ll be fined!
Now get out there and drive safe!
