Love James Wan’s horror movies? Check out his other horror films and binge watch them before Insidious 4. I promise it’ll help you with the jump scares you’re about to face while watching Insidious 4.
1. The Saw series
This is probably the first horror/gore movie I’ve ever watched, and it’s where Wan made his mark in the horror genre. The movie started off great but went downhill pretty quickly. Though if you’re looking for a great way to enter the gore genre, this series is an amazing start. You also have to admit, Jigsaw became a horror icon along with other big names like Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Pennywise, and Norman Bates.
2. The Insidious series
With the 4th one coming out soon, I believe everyone needs to watch the first 3, not only because it’s amazing, but because it’s also all connected. As compared to his Saw series, Insidious is definitely more superior of a horror movie. And I’m sorry to say this to Conjuring fans, but Insidious > Conjuring. Please don’t come to my house with pitchforks.
3. The Conjuring series
This was the horror series that made horror movies more mainstream. After having a lot of practice with Insidious, Wan definitely brought a lot of game to this series. Personally, I prefer the 1st conjuring than the 2nd, but that’s probably just me.
4. Lights Out
One of his more recent works, this movie was released last year and was directed by David F. Sandberg who also directed Annabelle: Creation. This stand-alone film has several jump scares – classis Wan style of horror. And fun fact: this movie was inspired by a YouTube short which made waves on the internet several years ago.
5. Dead Silence
This was probably the first James Wan movie that made me notice him as a horror director. It’s also one of my favourite movies – and scariest because I always found dolls/dummies scary as hell. This was also Wan’s first stand-alone horror movie after the Saw trilogy. And for a first, this movie is mind-blowing.
6. The Annabelle series
Personally, this has got to be the most disappointed I’ve been with James Wan. Annabelle has always been one of the biggest true horror story out there, and I definitely had big expectations. However, the 2nd movie (a prequel) was definitely better than the first one – which honestly made me giggle a couple of times. I’m glad to see the Annabelle series get better, but I hope there are no more sequels or prequels to this series because I think it has ended pretty nicely with Annabelle: Creation.
And no, we’re not going to talk about ‘Demonic’. However, I’m absolutely excited to watch Insidious: The Last Key and also The Nun which are both coming out this year!
