The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It’s an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us with canons, non-canons, prequels, sequels, sequels of the prequels, sequels of the sequels. It binds the galaxy together, around the Web, social media, and of course, the merchandises. With Disney has acquired the film rights to Lucasfilm, it seems like there will be more Star Wars movies to come in the future with sequels to The Force Awakens and anthology films. Meanwhile, let’s travel back in time to relive the forgotten heroes on Planet Scarif on 7 Intriguing Things You May Not Know About Rogue One:
1. Jyn Erso and Cassian Endor’s Fate
In the original draft of the movie, the starstruck lovers of Jyn Erso and Cassian Endor was supposed to survive the Battle of Scarif and escaped just before the notorious Death Star wiped out the entire planet. However, it is their original plan to kill the entire casts of characters but they had drafted the original ending just in case Disney finds the ending too dark in nature. After convinced by the film makers, it is decided to have all of the Rebel fighters killed to provide a noble act for the conclusion.
2. Donnie Yen’s Role
Originally turned down the role of Chirrut Imwe, Donnie was convinced to join the Star Wars Universe after his children found out and was so excited about it that he changed his mind. It was also his idea of being blind for his character and director Gareth Edwards was amused by it.
3. I’ve Got A Bad Feeling About This
The Empire-turned-Rebel robot, K-2SO was supposed to finish the infamous line “I’ve got a bad feeling about this” during the Battle of Scarif before he gets cut off eventually marking the tenth time the line has been uttered in Star Wars movies.
4. The Droids We Are Looking For
As Easter eggs of the movie, R2-D2 and C-3P0 had a cameo appearance when the Rebel fighters are getting ready to take off to Scarif and assist the Rogue One team thus keeping the record of the two lovable droids making their appearance in every Star Wars movie.
5. Tale from the Tape
During the battle over Planet Scarif, some of the pilots of Gold and Red Squadrons scenes are of the original characters taken from the footage from A New Hope of the original trilogy during the final battle with Luke Skywalker blowing up Death Star!
6. Throwback to Mustafar
As we gazed upon the scene of a planet covered with fiery lava, we knew that it is the planet of Mustafar where Obi Wan Kenobi sliced off his padawan limbs due to high grounds at the end of their lightsaber duel. Thus, we would know what comes next after seeing Krennic’s ship landing on the fiery molten planet. The appearance of Darth Vader in his bacta tank and confronting Krennic on the screen years after Revenge of the Sith was such a nostalgic gift to fans of Star Wars.
7. Saw Gerrera’s Origin
Saw Gerrera was actually a young animated character first introduced in the fifth season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Furthermore, George Lucas originally wanted to introduce the character to a live-action series, which didn’t happened unfortunately but fitted him into the story of The Clone Wars instead then returns to appear in Star Wars Rebels again.
