Everybody, George Town Festival is back!
With the theme ‘A Festival for Everyone’, this meaningful festival will be held from 9 to 24 July in various locations across George Town, Penang continuing their commitment to making arts accessible to everyone. Throughout these 16 days, there are more than 80 programmes covering visual art, theatre, music, dance and more for you to join! Here are some of the programmes that you should check out:
1. Art of Orient Garden
Date: 5 July 2022

Venue: Queensbay Mall
At this fashion showcase and exhibition, you get to see the fashion products designed by our local designers while discovering the endless possibilities of fashion design. What’s more, all the creations from the showcase are available for sale on the Festival’s website!

2. A Notional History
Date: 16 & 17 July 2022
Time: 8 pm
Venue: Loft 29
Ready for a new perspective on Malaysian history? In this documentary performance, an activist, journalist and performer investigate and speculate possible new histories for a ‘New Malaysia’, where they excavate school textbooks, inherited memories and video interviews of exiled revolutionaries.

4. Handbuilt Pottery Workshop

Are you a hands-on person? Join this workshop where you get to creatively express yourself through clay. There will be an instructor to introduce and demonstrate the pottery-making technique of handbuilding, so don’t worry if it is something new to you!

5. Potehi Puteri Hang Li Po
Date: 23 & 24 July 2022

Venue: Seh Tek Tong Cheah Kongsi
Discover the story of Potehi Puteri Hang Li Po, a Chinese princess who sailed to Melaka to be wed to the Sultan of Malacca, Sultan Mansur Syah. Most importantly, this story will be presented through the traditional artform of Potehi glove puppetry!
