Age knows no boundaries when it comes to achieving success!
Most of us want to complete our education by the 20s and get on to a job to support ourselves. Some took a few steps further by completing masters and PhD while still in their prime years.
However, age was no barrier for former Finance Minister Dr. Daim Zainuddin, who yesterday was awarded his PhD from Universiti Malaysia after working on his thesis for 11 years!
The journey to complete the PhD was not an easy journey. At 81, he had been struck by regular illness, so much so that he had to use a walking stick when he earned his doctorate but he was a figure legend by then. His thesis took 11 grueling years to complete, and this was without obstacles. His health deteriorate as he completed his PhD.
Despite of all the trials that came his way, he did not back down on earning his PhD. It was his passion that has lead him on to complete his thesis. His thesis, called “The Implementation of the New Economic Policy, Success and Failure, 1970 -2009”, was the fruit of his labor, which also earned him the long awaited PhD.
In getting his PhD, Dr. Daim Zainuddin has some good advise for young people seeking knowledge, one urging the young to seek knowledge for as long as they live.
“Only through knowledge, we can achieve success. Knowledge must be put to good use.”
In his graduation, Dr. Daim Zainuddin thanked everyone at UM who helped him with his studies, especially his supervisors and members of the faculty for giving him the opportunity to do his research.
The team from Sevenpie would like to congratulate Dr. Daim Zainuddin for the milestone!
