Bring on the Asian pride!
Last Sunday night, Awkwafina won the best actress award for her role as Billi in “The Farewell” during the Golden Globe Award 2020. Not only did she took home the Asian Pride, but also being the first Asian woman to be awarded in the category of musical comedy in Globes history!
“If anything, if I fall upon hard times, I can sell this,” Awkwafina joked on Sunday Night, holding the award.
The rapper and actor Nora Lum (a.k.a Awkwafina) has made her name known to the public with film such as Ocean’s 8 and Crazy Rich Asians. During her speech on the 77th annual award ceremony, she dedicated her win to her father, grandmother and her late mother. “I’d like to dedicate this to my dad, Wally. I told you I’d get a job.” Followed by a thank you speech to Lulu Wang, calling her an “incredible director”.

Looks like 2020 is going to be a successful and huge year for Awkwafina. Along with her Golden Globe win, she also be releasing a Comedy Central series, Nora from Queens, that is going to premiere on January 22.
