The rate of vapes and E-cigarettes being in the possession of teens worldwide has been growing at an exponential rate in recent times.
According to The Star, an estimated 5 million Malaysians aged 15 and older are smokers out of a total population of about 32 million, in light of the most recent national health and morbidity survey by the Health Ministry in 2015.
Malaysia has recently planned to introduce a regulation that prohibits the sale and use of these E-cigarettes and vaporizers. But what is so deadly in these vapes that truly cause death?
Here are 5 shocking facts about E-cigarettes you need to know:
1. There’s nicotine inside
E-Cigarettes might be smoke and tobacco-free, but they aren’t nicotine free. Nicotine is of the many drugs that is super addictive. It is known to be as difficult to give up as heroin. The addictive substance is capable of affecting your heart and even your gastrointestinal system. Not to mention, the use of e-cigarettes might encourage the use of other nicotine products.
2. Vaping may be carcinogenic
Other than Nicotine, the vapor inhaled into your lungs is known to contain heavy metal which are little particles that can stay inside your lungs. Not to mention, some of the cancer-causing substances inside include formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, and acrolein, which is a known irritant to the eyes, skin and nasal passages.
3. E-Cigarettes Have Not Been Proven To Help You With Quitting Your Smoking Habits
There is rather little evidence that E-cigarettes and other vaping devices can aid in the reduction of smoking cigarettes or even the complete halt of smoking at all. In fact, the nicotine in both vaping devices and E-cigarettes might even increase addiction to cigarettes making it way harder to stop!
4. E-Cigarettes And Other Vaping Devices Are Not Only Used By People Wanting To Quit
Vapes and E-cigarettes are super popular among younger people. There are many out there that are prone to vaping and smoking E-cigarettes due to peer pressure and other social-related reasons. Research even shows that there are a handful of people that only start smoking cigarettes after starting E-cigarettes and vapes.
5. Every Product Isn’t The Same
There is little to no consistency within the vapes and E-cigarettes. It is rather difficult to assess any faultiness of a product due to the limited federal oversight over E-cigarettes and vapes. There are significant differences among the vapes and E-cigarettes with some containing more concentrated ingredients than others, one of the main ingredients being nicotine, and other toxins.
