Marvel’s marketing for Ant-Man and the Wasp is really something else. In their latest marketing scheme, they’ve sent a swarm of living, flying ants to Wimbledon aka one of the most prestigious tennis tournaments in the world.
Full disclosure, the above statement is a joke. This story has nothing to do with Ant-Man but you should definitely read our review for it, here.
Jokes aside, the organizers of Wimbledon had to deal with a rather unusual hazard this time around due to swarms of flying ants in mating season, flitting all over the pitch and the stands.
Australian Open champion, Caroline Wozniacki was one of the players affected during her match against Ekaterina Makarova.

“I want to be here to focus on tennis, not eating bugs,” she told CNN in one of the best quotes this writer has had the pleasure of reading. It should honestly go on a t-shirt.
Throughout her entire match, the 27-year-old was clearly distressed by the insects and their arial love affair, though she denied it affecting her performance.
She lost with a final score was 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 though so make of that what you will.
According to Wimbledon, this isn’t the first time they had to deal with flying insect-on-insect romance. They also appeared earlier this year, usually appearing towards the end of the month.
The ants appear once a year because of their seasonal ‘nuptial flight’.
It happens at around the same time across the country in the space of a few days, give or take.
Here’s hoping that the poor ants get to romance each other in safety and privacy next time without a human sports tournament getting in the way, no matter how amazing and important it is.
On a serious note, here’s also hoping that the athletes who have been training extensively for months get to compete at peak performance at the tournament next time, without being interrupted by a swarm of flying ants.
