Malaysian’s favourite Upin and Ipin was nominated as the best-animated film for Oscars 2020, but now another 2D cartoon dominates the Malaysian film industry!
Yup, you heard it right! Local film studio R&D Studio recently launched its 9-minute animated film on its official YouTube channel.
‘Batik Girl’ tells the story of a young girl who tries to cope with a tragedy and soon finds herself drawn into the magical world of batik painting.
Not just that, this film is also educational that it shares certain information about the traditional culture of this artistic piece of textile.
The 9-minute video is the product of a collaboration between the R&D Studio, Tudidut Studio, writer Heidi Shamsuddin, and music composed by Universiti Teknologi Mara’s Faculty of Music, while the production was supported by Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).
‘Batik Girl’ received a mass amount of support and popularity globally, that it was screened at 26 film festivals around the world!
