Doing it the Malaysian way.
With National Day just around the corner, McDonald’s Bukit Bintang had recently renamed itself to “Mekdi” and took over the Internet with a storm.
Did you know that McDonald’s Bukit Bintang is the first-ever McDonald Restaurant to be opened in Malaysia back in 1982?
Renaming it to “Mekdi” surely did hit the nostalgia spot and got Malaysians beaming with pride. Locals took to the Internet showing their excitement and fervent support with McDonald’s new “nickname”.
i thought the Mekdi thingy wasn’t real 😱 pic.twitter.com/MhnqMtRnmD

I actually love how they turn this into a Malaysian element. Way to go, Mekdi!#Mekdi pic.twitter.com/BPdEyKe8Wc

Other than showing the Merdeka spirit through the new name, McDonald’s Malaysia had also introduced new addition to the menu with “Ini Rasa Kita” – featuring local Malaysian favourites Nasi Lemak McD, cendol, and cempedak ice-cream! Mm… sedap giler!
Malaysians have also creatively renamed other fast food chains including Kepci (make a guess of the F&B brand!). Will we get to see a “Setabak” soon?
What do you think of these localized F&B renames? Let us know in the comments!
