In today’s Featured Interview, Yoshiko talks about her journey as an artist and a budding YouTuber in Malaysia. We hope you enjoy this piece as much as we do!
1. Hi Yoshiko, please tell us more about yourself!
Hello! My name Yoshiko. This name is actually is given by my dad in contrary to the common misunderstanding where this is a self given name. I’ve been in the entertainment industry since the age of 12 and I’ve took part in a lot of singing competition. Joining competitions alone at that young age really does help me to grow in person and get to know the industry better. Most of the kids have their parents with them out there. mostly moms would be the one who planned everything for them but imagine when they saw me alone.this is where all the dramas came from. But on the other hand, this is what my parents wants me to do which is observe and differentiate people myself. But of course these helped me a lot in my career after that as I got back into this industry.
2. You debuted as one of the member of MUSE GIRLS group in 2015. How did you juggle your studies along with your hectic schedule as an artist?
Honestly, I had a hard time juggling as it was tiring and I was under a lot of stress. I had to wake up at 6am to study during exam period get everything done by 1pm before heading back to dance studio at 3pm to practice my moves before resuming my revision during the night. But still, I did try my best to separate study and training. i believe that if my mind is not clear enough to know the importance of what I’m doing, I wouldn’t be able to do anything well at all.
3. What are the best parts of being a part Muse Girls?
I’m one of the key player in the group but not main vocalist as we have different roles for each and every one of us. I’m very fortunate because there’s no drama between us girls. We worked very hard to improve and we grew together. We would tell each other about our mistakes with an open mind. I really do enjoy moments where we get to perform on stage together in front of 30,000 audiences! Their applause is really a confidence boost, so these are some of the things I enjoyed the most.
4. So, you just started your very own YouTube channel a few months back. What actually inspire you to become a YouTuber?
I do have some friends who does YouTube but the first thing that makes me want to try is because I felt like YouTube can last forever. So I posted videos of me going about my daily lives. It’ll be very rewarding to watch my own videos, 10 years down the road! Try everything while you still have the time.
5. What are the challenges you faced as a YouTuber?
Having my own YouTube channel is kind of different compared to Muse Girls. Back then, we have lots and lots of limitation. After having my own YouTube channel, I can do anything I like, which is great. Having that said, I got attacked during my last two videos because somehow people thought that I was bullying my friend. Some viewers were triggered over it but the only thing I really care about is that my friend and I are fine.
6. What’s your plan in the future? Will you still continue your singing career?
I wouldn’t mind to get back into the entertainment industry but I guess if I really want to get back there, I hope I am 100% ready with proper training.
7. Besides singing and making YouTube videos, what are the other things you enjoy doing?
I like to travel with my girls! But of course filming video is something that I will probably do when I travel in future. Maybe that’s because I like to share my thoughts and my life on social media as it plays a big role in my life.
8. If you are not a singer or a YouTuber, what will you choose to do, and why?
I have been in this industry for quite sometime now so if given a choice, I’ll like to try a couple more things before deciding what I want to do. I’m still very young so I really believe that people my age should just try everything they want to. It’s okay to change jobs and it’s okay to make mistakes.
9. Any advise to those who aspire to be a singer or YouTuber?
YouTube is a free platform for everyone. You can create any videos you like or anything which interest you Do not get blinded by the views or comments. Just keep doing. The right audience will appreciate your work that you’ve done. As for singer, I believe there are a lot of potential people out there who wants to be an artist but are afraid of a lot of things. Just experience it, you wouldn’t know where is your next destination unless you keep trying. For me, I have never thought of myself being in a girl group which brings me so much great memories and experiences. That was really the highlight in my life so far which I hope that young people will try to put themselves out there and see how far they can go.
10. Any life mottos?
Experience things, learn and move on. Keep doing. Keep trying
