Hear ye, Hear ye!
For the first time in history, the annual Designer Black Market is held in a mall! This year, KDU’S Designer Black Market is being held in Atria Shopping Gallery from 2nd December to 16th December which features an amazing array of creations that were specially curated by KDU University College’s very own entrepreneurial students. In fact, this just so happened to be their final showcase before graduating!
In an event that kick-starts their journey as entrepreneurs, 14 students have a chance to showcase their skills, talents and abilities during the span of the event. Not only does this event help these students establish their presence in the world, but it also helps the less fortunate as KDU has collaborated with Pusat Jagaan Siddhartan to raise funds for the orphans.
As the day started, people were greeted by a large crowd of people and some VIPs who were there to officiate the event and of course some media personnel as well.
Next came the performances, first done by the amazing Charis Ow to start the day off just right, followed up with some really cool looking people in reflective suits before the opening ceremony came to a close, not before ending it with a bang though!
Booth time
Next came booth time, where guests were encouraged to walk around and see what exactly is happening, from Tote bags to dream catchers, there really was something for everyone. What was fun about the experience is that you get to interact with the creators which were the students and learn about their insights and what made them to go with what they did, and although I didn’t manage to get a proper chat with most of them as we know, they’re kinda running their own business guyssssss.
I did however manage to get some insight from a lovely lady who was running a goth/vampire themed stationery booth. Which in itself should already be a thing of awe but as I learnt about her process when coming up with the theme of the brand and products, it dawns upon me that these products are not merely just branding or items for sale, but more of an expression of each student’s individual passion, and it clearly shows.
Special Shows
Luckily enough, I was able to catch most of the special guest performances such as Faiz Najib and even Louise Wong, which was a treat to the ears for sure!
Head of school
I then had a conversation with a very passionate head of school, Mr Loo who was more than welcoming towards my questions as I asked him about the event, to which I then found out that this was the first major showcase for the Entrepreneurial Students that is held in a mall!
Insane right?
When asked about the future of this showcase/event, Mr Loo expressed that he wish to have a Designer Black market outlet.
Sevenpie wishes Mr Loo all the best!
Sevenpie.comA rare group photo of all the students.
Cheers to all the students who worked hard to make this a reality! For the rest of us, please show the Designer Black Market some support by showing up and if it’s right up your alley, bring a few things home!
