Sugar, cocoa, milk, palm oil. Long ago, Nutella reigned supreme as the go-to hazelnut spread on our bread.
A time of peace when this hazelnut-based spread kept balance between bread, muffins, cookies, and hot chocolate. But everything changed when Lindt ‘attacked’.
And that’s our segue into telling you that Lindt has unveiled a new hazelnut spread!
As you may know, Nutella is currently the market dominator in terms of non-jam, non-peanut butter, and non-Vegemite (for Australians, and people with no sense of taste) spreads.
Nutella has been around since the Second World War. More specifically, it was created around 1946 due to a shortage of chocolate. It was properly introduced to the market in 1965 and has not left the public consciousness since.
Despite the presence of other spreads and Nutella alternatives, both healthy and otherwise, the brand has occupied a special place in our hearts, minds, and bellies.
It’s not uncommon to see Nutella used to make all kinds of tasty delights ranging from (and not limited to) cookies, milkshakes, brownies, pop tarts, and… whatever this Frankenstein’s monster is supposed to be.

When popular chocolate maker Lindt added a spread-based product onto their website and stores in the UK, it shocked and delighted many.
For those unfamiliar, Lindt is a chocolate company that was founded in 1845.
The US was a young country at the time! Famous poet Edgar Allan Poe was alive at the time! That’s how long ago that was!
Since then, Lindt has slowly but surely made itself a big name in the chocolate industry with over 410 cafés around the world, along with selling handmade chocolates, macaroons, cakes, and ice cream.
And now, it is throwing its hat in the hazelnut spread industry as a rival to industry giant, Nutella.
While this isn’t exactly a David vs Goliath or a Batman vs Superman level of imbalance, there’s no denying that Lindt will have to do a lot to catch up with Nutella.
It is interesting to note that Lindt is more than a century older than Nutella but Nutella uses a full 25% of the world’s hazelnut crop.
Maybe that’s why Lindt is breaking into the market and is making their product with more hazelnut content per bottle than Nutella’s.
The products flew off the shelves as soon as they were introduced but Lindt appears to be restocking it.
The spread is available in UK stores and it is not known when it will be available in Malaysia, though one can hope it is soon.
