THE TAYLOR’S VERSION OF RED JUST RELEASED TODAY!
For the non Taylor Swift fans, long story short, Taylor has decided to re-record her older albums for legal issues. While fans will be able to hear all the original tracks from the album re-recorded with her now more matured voice, she has also decided to re-record some unreleased tracks from the albums which she calls them songs “from the vault.” She is very smart in the sense that she knows only hardcore fans can differentiate both versions, so at least those “new” tracks should attract general public to buy the new record.
So today, we’ll rank the Red’s songs from the vault, based on our first few listens.
7. “Run (feat. Ed Sheeran)”
We think if you were to compare this track with “Everything Has Changed”, you can see why the latter was selected into the original album. Ed Sheeran sounded great in the track, but we think we’ve heard better collaborations.
6. “The Very First Night”
We think this is one of those songs that she was sort of experimenting with her style. We can see why it’s scrapped from the original album. It’s a simple feel-good song, but definitely will need a couple more listens.
5. “I Bet You Think About Me (feat. Chris Stapleton)”
This track straight up gives you the country vibe like the older Taylor Swift days. We also love how her voice complements Chris Stapleton’s – it’s like “exile (feat. Bon Iver)” but a happier version. It’s nice to revisit this era of Taylor Swift. The track wasn’t an immediate favorite, definitely took a couple of listens.
4. “Message In A Bottle”
This definitely feels more pop-ier, we guess this marks one of those songs that sort of hint that later on Taylor Swift will go full-on pop with “1989”. We can definitely see it being played on the radio but we can also see why it’s scrapped from the original album.
3. “Babe”
This is a good mix between her acoustic guitar and “pop” vibe that she’s experimenting in this era. It’s nice to hear Taylor’s voice with a guitar, it always feels very soft and cozy. The choice to echo the “babe” in the choruses is such a nice touch!
2. “Forever Winter”
The album Red really fits the “winter” vibe, and this song feels like a more matured version of “Back to December.” We feel like grabbing a hot cup of coffee and wrapping ourselves in a red scarf to keep ourselves warm with our cats (wink wink, Swifties should know what we’re talking about.)
1. “Nothing New (feat. Phoebe Bridgers)”
If you tell us this track belongs to folklore/evermore, we would’ve believed you. It feels like a track 2021 Taylor would’ve written or recorded. When we heard the song, we knew immediately on the first listen that this track is going to be on loop for the rest of the year.
What do you think of the ranking? Do you agree or disagree? Let us know what YOUR favorites are from the vault!
