Dynasty Warriors, Harvest Moon, Mario.
Ahh, if only we can go back time and relive those carefree moments again. Sadly, that’s simply not the case if you can’t afford the hefty price tag of a brand new PS or even an Xbox 360.
But don’t you pull on that sad face just yet – did you know that some of our old-school childhood favourites, like Babu88, are actually coming back to life in the form of mobile applications? YES!
1. Pokemon GO
No list of retro-video-games-turned-mobile-app would be complete without the presence of this iconic game. Garnering a staggering amount of downloads ever since its initial debut back in July, this game has admittedly lost some of its attraction since then. However, major kudos to the developers for injecting a fresh breath of life to this classic – from its superbly interactive gameplay to an intriguing walk-to-hatch concept for the eggs, safe to say the journey is far from over for Pokémon Go.
2. Grand Theft Auto San Andreas
Although this classic requires some moolah for a download, it is totally worth it once you experience the game itself. Apart from being a straight-up game for jacking cars (of course), players get to tap into their delinquent selves with the ability to shoot, fly planes, join a gang, and pretty much all behaviours that are considered ‘shady’.
So go ahead and live out your alter-egos in GTA San Andreas – the 70-hours worth of gameplay is more than enough to keep you occupied for weeks.
3. Tamagotchi Classic
A popular phenomenon that took over the 90’s, who could forget the hype of owning a virtual pet (cos your parents wouldn’t allow a real one, duh)? Recreating the exact nostalgic experience in the form of a mobile app, this 2013 invention allows users to feed, vaccinate, poke, and clean up after one’s pet, along with a happiness level bar to keep track of its quality of life.
4. Sonic the Hedgehog
Improved graphics, a time attack mode and achievement tracking? Oh boy, we’re in for a wild ride.
Rehashing the classic favourite with added improvements all-over, SEGA really upped the ante for loyal fanboys, making it a fun throwback experience for all. If you could look past the initial difficulties of maneuvering on a touchscreen as opposed to a physical controller as meant for the original, then this game is definitely worth a download.
