Skydiving. A sport not for the fainthearted. Nor for those who have an innate, visceral fear of not having full control of one’s destine (like yours truly).
Extreme sports like skydive is also one of the better ways to experience amazing landscapes at bird’s-eye view from thousands of feet above all.
To those who have this on their bucket list for yonks and was convinced that this isn’t the best idea after all, this one is dedicated to you.
Life begins at the end of your comfort zone. In this photo, the writer was just casually sitting at the edge of it before the best 90 seconds of her life.
1. Too expensive lah
To most of us white collars who earns a meager salary, blowing at least RM 1,000 (depending where you’re doing it) within 2 minutes gives you second thoughts. It means having peasant lunch for the next 3 months, or putting your urge to get the latest Hermes bag on hold. In retrospect, spending that sum of money for an invaluable ice breaking conversation with that gal standing by the bar on a Friday night, or gaining 1000 likes in a record breaking time on your Instagram for sharing that million dollar shot, that’s easily the best investment that you can make on yourself. Money can buy experience, but it surely can’t make you grow more guts to do this.
2. I’m so going to die!
Which obviously, you won’t (most of the time). Car accidents have caused more deaths than this. And if you really run out of luck mid-air, it’ll be an instant kill.
3. Very mafan (tedious)
For starters, try tandem skydiving. In layman’s term, someone who has done this for gazillion times will be strap securely behind you. Let he/she do the tedious job. They’re paid professionals afterall. All you have to do is be physically present (cos you might passed out) and enjoy the experience!
4. Please, I’m too old for this
If you’re under 35, physically fit and did not experience any health complications prior to this, old should not be part of your vocabulary (yet). Of course, you may consult your family doctor to give you a peace of mind.
5. I might get injured
In all seriousness, you’re more prone to injury while attempting a bungee jump than this. As long as you pay full attention during the briefing and follow the instructions, everything will happen in a breeze!
This is prolly the ballsiest thing that I’ve done in my twenty-something years of living. The irony part of skydiving is that while it literally brings you down, you feel nothing but total freedom. To experience gravity at its finest.
The million dollar question- would I do it again? Yes, at a greater height (for a longer free-falling period), and only when someone is going to sponsor me. Any takers?
