Malaysia has started their lockdown and citizens are advised to stay home.
Even though businesses, schools, and many other “happenings” have to be paused to bring the exposure of people to viruses to a minimum, the essential services still have to be provided. For example: food.
People are encouraged to cook their own food, or if necessary, go out and “dabao” food from restaurants. Well, this is going to cost us a lot of single-use plastics!
Did you know that it can take up to a thousand years for plastic to fully decompose?
From today onwards, let’s bring our own containers when we go out to get food! Not only are they safer for containing your food, it also puts less trash into our mother Earth.
Come on guys! Don’t be selfish. We are already generating more than enough one-time plastic usage ever since the outbreak. If you think about it, those masks, wet tissues, etc., those are all gonna be just a piece of trash after they’ve done their duties to keep you safe from the virus.
Yes, COVID-19 is an outbreak, it will (hopefully) be gone soon. However, the issue with overloading plastic waste has been a long term issue! Start acting on it, practice bringing your own reusable containers, not just during this period of time, but throughout your lifetime. You might not be able to control the virus, but at least you have a shot at saving the environment with one small step!
What are you doing to help the environment in the midst of this outbreak? Let us know in the comment section below!
