Instagram has removed the ‘following’ feature that could be the bane of many relationships in the past.
You might have heard of it or perhaps you’ve already noticed the changes in the app, but it has been first reported by Buzzfeed News, that Instagram has confirmed that it has removed its ‘Following’ tab in the app.
Able to be accessed easily through the heart icon Instagram, the ‘following’ tab was always used as more of a ‘stalkerish’ tool than a tool that aids in discovering new posts and accounts that their friends engage with.
Other than the tool being used in a ‘stalkerish’ manner, the application was always thought to have a few setbacks. The feature would be the spark of many relationships’ arguments. Couples would argue, upon finding out that their partner isn’t replying to them, but has the time to be liking countless photos (most of the time, models).
Instagram’s Head of Product, Vishal Shah said this:
“Many users don’t even realize their Likes and comments can be seen in the section and that only a small number of people access it on a regular basis.”
The removal of the following tab was mainly to drive users to focus on the explore tab to explore new content. The ‘following’ tab simply does not provide you with the appropriate and interesting content like the explore page does.
Here are some reactions from twitter:
