When it comes to girl groups, everyone has their personal favorite. But we have compiled history’s top 10 all-time ultimate girl groups for you!
1. Spice Girls
The 5-member girl group was put together in the mid-1990s and their hit single “Wannabe” changed pop music forever. The girls were not only popular for their music but also for their fashion sense and “girl power” message. They ushered in an era of female empowerment like never before back then. The public absolutely loved it that until today the ripple effect hasn’t subsided yet still.
2. TLC
Formed in 1991, a producer and one of his clients came up with an idea to create an R&B girl group with a twist of hip-hop attitude. The final lineup for this R&B girl group finalized and TLC was set, consisting of Lisa Lopes, Tionne Watkins, and Rozonda Thomas. They broke through the industry with 2 massive hits “Creep” and “Waterfalls” and followed it up with an iconic R&B anthem “No Scrubs”. Unfortunately, Lopes passed in a tragedy of an automobile accident in 2002, it seemed as if the girl group days were numbered but Watkins and Thomas have performed together with a numbered of times over the years as they plan to keep Lopes’s legacy alive.
3. Destiny’s Child
Before Queen Bey struck out on her own, the most well-known girl group, Destiny’s Child became one of the most popular R&B groups in the ’90s to early ’00s. They rose to fame after signing a contract with Columbia, their 2nd album “Writings on The Wall” became an instant modern classic. Their signature song, “Say My Name” was a number 1 charting pop hit.In 2006, the group then broke up but every now and then, they would reunite for major events
4. The Pussycat Dolls
A choreographer came up with an idea to create a contemporary burlesque troupe and that’s how The Pussycat Dolls came about.After the group came together, Interscope Records signed with the girls a recording contract. With a former member, Nicole Scherzinger who was the lead vocalist, The Pussycat Dolls exploded onto the pop charts with their debut single “Don’t Cha”. Sadly, by late 2010 the group was no longer together but Scherzinger did pursue a successful solo career.
5. Little Mix
Little Mix was the first girl group to ever win The X Factor UK back in 2011. During summer 2012, their first original song, “Wings” soared to the top spot of pop charts. The girls have earned the top 10 charting singles in the UK in just 5 years. Even though all 4 of the girls are extremely talented singers and dancers, their warmth and humour is what makes them charming and outstanding. These girls are one of the most successful UK girl groups of all time.
6. Fifth Harmony
Five female singers who entered the competition of X Factor USA as solo artists were put together as a girl group by one of the judges, Simon Cowell. The group won third place in the competition but soon became the most successful contestants from the show. Their first 5 singles were all top-charting hits, each better than the last. In December 2016, one of the girls in the group, Camilla Cabello announced that she was leaving the group to pursue her own solo career.
