If you’re wanting to do something different in the new year, be it for leisure or what, I would recommend geocaching. Remember Pokemon Go that took the world by storm last year? Well geocaching is basically along the same lines except the stuff you find are real physical things.
You download the Geocaching app on your phone then search up caches you would like to find. The app would roughly track your location and guide you to where the cache is hidden, kinda like Google Maps navigation. The cache is usually a small container like a Tupperware that will have a logbook and maybe random trinkets inside. Once you find a cache, proudly leave your mark by recording your name in the book and exchanging one of the little trinkets for your own if you wish.
Sound like something you would want to try? Great! Here are 5 reasons why you should start geocaching.
1. It keeps you active
If one of your new year’s resolutions is to exercise more, start with geocaching. By running about or even just moving about looking for the cache, you are exercising. Calories will be burnt. Perhaps not as many as a full on work out but still, something is better than nothing. Overall it will keep your body healthy and fit. It can make your heart stronger and make sure you stay hydrated.
2. It keeps your brain active
Not only will your body be active but your brain will be too. More often than not, in order to find the cache, there will be a puzzle you have to solve or something you need to decrypt. This will get your brain working and in the long run can have many benefits.
3. It enables you to explore new places
A lot of the time, these caches are not hidden in very well-known or typical places. This means that by searching for the cache, you will be able to explore a new place as well. It makes you realize places and things you never really noticed before. What better way to get to know your place than that?
4. It is a fun bonding activity
Geocaching is a fun bonding activity because you are in effect running around together for the same reason ie to find the cache. It can help to improve your relationships and you experience new things together. You could go geocaching with friends, family, your significant other, colleagues etc.
5. It gives you a sense of accomplishment
This is a given. When you successfully manage to find a cache, you will no doubt feel a sense of accomplishment. You not only feel great but it can boost your confidence and self-esteem. You feel productive. Not to mention it is highly motivational as well.
So there you have it, piefaces! Give geocaching a try and you just may end up falling in love with it. When you try it out, feel free to share your experiences with us in the comments below!
