We all love festivals, don’t we? This is the time of the year where families put aside their differences and simply enjoy each other’s presence.
No frills or whatsoever, they said.
Now, it’s a norm for local brands to release short, festive skits to commemorate the occasions every now and then. Just when we thought that we’ve seen the best, TNB prove us wrong with their recent Deepavali video which garnered a whopping 2.8 million views (and counting!)
In fact, many influencers also shared the teaser on the day where the actual video was released, which pretty much explained why it went viral (and that insane number of views!). To add on, the influencers only shared one super short scene to tease their followers, which is the part where the hero flip his hair at the beginning of the video. If you ask us, it’s flippin’ smart la because it’s not just another click bait; the full video is epic!
Titled as “Family Mischief”, the story follows Ramesh’s first Deepavali with his in-laws. Before we dwell further, how frequent do we actually come across stories about newly married son-in-laws who celebrate their first festival with their in-laws?
None.
As a matter of fact, this is an age-old tradition practiced by our Hindu friends, which goes by this term called Thalai Deepavali. In Tamil, Thalai means ‘first’ or ‘head’. Generally it means first Deepavali after marriage. In Malaysia, the newlywed Hindu couple will visit the bride’s home for celebration. From what we’ve gathered, Thalai Deepavali is compulsory and newlyweds will practice it out of culture habit for the sake of respect. Son-in-laws will usually receive gifts from his in-laws as a symbol of showing respect to the new addition in the family.
Why the lengthy explanation? You can thank us later.
So….without further ado, here’s the full video for your viewing pleasure.
