New Zealand is certainly well-known for its breathtaking sceneries, most prominently those of rolling green hills and mountains, thus attracting tourists from all over the world. Christchurch of course, is no different. But did you know that there are many other places in Christchurch that are as Instagram-worthy? Take a few shots at these places and I guarantee that your feed will be transformed. Here goes:
1. Punting on the Avon
What is punting, you ask? Well really, it’s just rowing in a special type of boat called a punt. A punt is a long and narrow flat-bottomed boat that is square on both ends.
Be it summer or winter, punting on the Avon River is a popular and unique way to take a tour around the city. Not only is the whole punting experience perfect for photos, Antigua Boat Sheds, the building which houses the punts is equally impressive. It was built in 1882 and is one of the oldest wooden buildings in Christchurch. It’s an absolute must to take that Instagram photo against the iconic green and white striped pattern of the building for a vintage flair. Speaking of vintage, don’t forget to get the highly trained punter dressed in traditional Edwardian attire to join in the photo too when you punt!
2. New Brighton Beach
New Brighton beach is home to one of the world’s longest piers in Australasia. Spanning 300 metres, it is certainly a sight to see! Make your Instagram photo more sui generis by going at night, or even by catching one of the many annual free events held there such as Kite Day (January) and Guy Fawkes (November) night where you will be able to enjoy a firework display like none other.
3. Christchurch Art Gallery
The Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetu (Maori name) is the place to go to add funky and one-of-a-kind elements to your feed. With new exhibitions frequently held, there is definitely always something to see. Apart from displays, there are also talks, films and events going on. What makes the Christchurch Art Gallery so unique is that the art is not limited within the confines of the building – some can be seen on the outside walls of the building as well! Oh yea, did I mention that entry is free?
4. Botanical Gardens
Exploring the Christchurch Botanical Gardens is a no-brainer for taking Instagram-worthy shots. I mean, what could be better than good ol’ flowers right? A diverse array of flowers in vibrant colours adorn the Gardens every season, giving it a fresh look each time. And while you’re there, be sure to check out Hagley Park and the Canterbury Museum which are literally seconds away. As always, entry is FOC.
So there you have it, piefaces! What are you waiting for?
