1. Hong La Jiao (Burma Road)
Once you try this, you might be hooked forever! Why is that so? Well, reason being is because this shop is famous for its irresistable dry pot steamboat (干锅火锅).
You can choose the main ingredients you like such as crab, frog, prawn, chicken, lamb, beef and many more. After that, proceed to select your flavour of choice to finalise your dry pot. If dry steamboat is not your thing, then fret not! They too have soup steamboat flavours like tom yam, Sze Chuan spicy soup, Macau pork bones soup, herbal soup to tingle your taste buds!
Note: You can choose the level of spiciness and also the portion of the steamboat.
Though at least 20 “free-flow” of condiments or sauces are available, RM1 is still charged for every headcount. So, if you don’t want it, make sure you let the cashier know before making your payment. If you really want refillable drinks, you can just order water or Chinese Tea.
And Penang really have limited places to eat after midnight, all we have are mamak shops, KFC and McD. So, this is one of the favourite spot penangites midnight owl loves to visit after drinking as this shop opens till 5am! Now they even have other branches in Icon City and Raja Uda.
2. La Mei Zi (Nagore Road)
Another place for the midnight owls to fill in their stomach! This place opens from 5pm till 5am too! La Mei Zi is famous for their Sze Chuan Ma La Soup and also their old duck soup. Though they only have limited types of condiments but at least it’s FREE.

They also have another branch in Crystal Point, Bayan Baru. But that branch only serve people till 12am.
3. Gia Xiang Chong Qing (Kirin Road)

This steamboat restaurant is famous for its Sze Chuan Poached Fish and also Herbal Chicken. They also provide other spicy soup as well. So, if you are craving for hot, spicy and Sze Chuan dish, this place is exctly right for you!

They have another branch in Raja Uda, Mainland Penang too but it only operates till 230am whereas the restaurant here operates till 3am.

5. Eam Huat Charcoal Steamboat (Batu Lanchang)
Just like it’s name, CHARCOAL! So, this steamboat is famous for using charcoal to boil up the steamboat, and they are also famous for its fried fish head! They only have clear flavoured soup, but trust me, it’s more than enough, the fried fish head will make you soup taste DELICIOUS!

If you are a fish ball lover, OMG you must really try their specialty “4 Heavenly Balls”, it’s really really GOOD!
FYI, the place is not air-conditioned, it is actually a kopitiam, so their stall is inside the kopitiam, but people usually come here for their steamboat. They don’t operate until midnight, they operate from 5pm till 10pm.
