When we scribble or doodle, most of our creations look horrible. But one artist & illustrator from Kuala Lumpur made scribbling into art.
Say hi to Vince Low, famously known for his stunning portraits.
Hello Vince! Do share more about yourself! What do you do full time?
Hi there! I’m a full time artist working on my artwork and also a part time creative director at a digital and advertising agency.
Tell us your journey as a designer & illustrator! When did you first discover your passion for drawing/illustration?
I graduated as an illustrator but it was really difficult for me to find a job at that time until 5 years ago, where I was hired as a creative group head in an advertising agency. With hard work and dedication, I was promoted to Head of Illustration few years after.
How would you describe your scribbling style?
I would describe it as spontaneous because whatever I have in my mind, I will just draw it out.
What do you think about the art scene in Malaysia?
I think that there is no high demand for talented artists in Malaysia. There are plenty of talented and creative artists out there but up till today, not much attention is given to them.
On a daily basis, how are you inspired to create art?
I get my inspiration by going out, meeting new people and listening to their interesting stories. Besides that, traveling around the world also contributed to my inspirations.
Tell us a random fact about yourself!
Fun fact! I am also a drummer and I love music.
In your words, what is art?
For me, art is a form of communication. It is also a form how one can express their feelings and emotions through art.
Any upcoming projects for you?
I’m currently participating in some award submissions and also a few international projects.
Do share some advice to budding artists out there!
To all talented artists out there! Coming from an artist myself, I would advice them to pursue art as a hobby and not as a full time job because it is a tough industry especially in Malaysia and at the end of the day, you would still need to make ends meet. BUT always remember to believe in yourself and that hard work will pay off.
Other than drawing, what is a typical day in your life?
I like jogging and going to the gym. Besides that, I also enjoy socializing and meeting new people.
Any life mottos?
“Do what you like and like what you do”.
Who is your all time inspiration in life?
My all time favourite inspiration in life would be Jim Carrey, Richard Branson and Muhammad Ali.
Tell us what makes you smile the most? ☺
I will smile till my ears when I’m with my niece. Besides that, being able to help someone in need and seeing them achieve their goals will make my day as well.
Where do you see yourself in 2 years’ time?
In 2 years time, I hope to expand my brand internationally and build a family.
