E3 is the world’s largest exhibition for the gaming industry, where the latest and greatest games, consoles and gaming hardware are announced/showcased. And just like your Facebook timeline, I’m here to spam you with a bunch of exciting new games showed at this year’s E3!
1. Days Gone
If you combine The Last of Us and Sons of Anarchy, you get Days Gone. Bend’s Studio’s open-world zombie sandbox looks like Naughty Dog had a bit on this action-adventure game – everything from stealth kills to combat. But what makes Days Gone different is that the enemies. These ravenous zombies move as one, like the ones in World War Z, hence taking them head on is pure suicide. You either have to distract them or play them off against hostile survivors, just to open up new ways for you to save yourself. Not forgetting to mention… there’s also zombie wolves and bears too.
2. Shadow of the Colossus
Just a wild rumour before, the Shadow of Colossus remake is fo’ realz and it’s coming in 2018. The original PS2 game and first HD release on PS3 will always remain a fan favourite and it’s not hard to see why as it tells a moving and haunting tale of one hunter and his horse taking down a land of giant Colossi. Sony’s keeping the details very tight-lipped for now, but we’re all wondering if it’s just another graphical upgrade, or an actual remake. Hopefully it’s something between the two, but we all know it being on the PS4 will help it’s following grow bigger and open up a whole new generation of gamers.
3. God of War
While I’ve been obsessed with the real money bingo games on my phone – this has become one of the most talked about reboot/sequels coming to PS4 (It was spammed on my timeline the moment the gameplay was released). The reimagined game displays a series maturing to suit a more story-driven human drama that made The Last of Us so well-loved. Kratos is now back, living in the world of Norse Gods (probably because all the Greek ones are dead). The game has some of the best warzone hack and is more of a buddy movie feel to it with Kratos venturing into the treacherous winter with his young son for a warrior’s trial and we get a little taste that the frenzied combat from older games is there, but it’s just going to be balanced out with some emotions and family-bonding. You can expect the release to be in early 2018!
4. Spider-Man
Spider-Man on PS4 has Ratchet & Clank developer Insomniac Games at its helm and shows that it could well be the first hit for Marvel in the world of video games. The trailer shows slick acrobatic movements with just enough combat emulating those from the Batman Arkham FreeFlow model. I mean, just look at it! I’m just loving the clean, bright art style, looking like it just came out of a comic book. Looking at Spiderman’s movements, parkour comes to mind, and if you love quick-thinking such as sprinting up the sides of building or leaping into a web swing effortlessly, then this game would’ve surely excited you. This Spider-Man will be swinging into action in 2018!
5. Assassin’s Creed: Origins
This is another game that has been rumoured to be in the words for a long time. According to various leaks, the series is going to take us to Egypt now, and it was all proved to be true when we finally got a full glimpse of the latest game. A year feels like it really did pay off with Origins, as it looks absolutely fantasting, making good changes to combat and movement. We do fear that the RPG elements might clutter an already cluttered series, but we’re still optimistic; looking forward to scaling pyramids and also… jumping from it.
6. Call of Duty WWII
With not many on-stage demos at this year’s Sony keynote, it doesn’t mean Activision and Sledgehammer Gamers were going to give us nothing but a logo and a boring monologue about the cost of war. Okay, so we got that too, but we also got to see some of the action from the list of real-life battles. There’s a certain intensity when it comes to trench warfare and with all that current-gen flamethrower fire, this game proves that it’s going to be visually stunning. Get excited because the game drops on the 3rd of November.
7. Detroit: Become Human
We all know David Cage’s games to be divisive as his stories tend to be self-indulgent and needlessly convoluted, but you have to say; the man has an eye for engaging stories and characters. Detroit has definitely evolved into the most impressive extension of his multiple pathed, consequences-driven narratives. The trailer shows a familiar revolution as the androids bring to shake off the shackles of their servitude, embracing consciousness. There’s also a huge network of branching decisions, some passive, some violent, and everything else in the middle. And we can’t wait to see just how much your choices will affect the world around you. Unfortunately, you might have to wait a little longer as there was no release date for this game.
8. Beyond Good & Evil 2
This sequel from a massively influential original released 15 years ago had definitely surprised fans this year at Ubisoft’s 2017 conference. There was some criticisms at this game, especially about how it throws around F-bombs and S-hits (tee-hee) just because it can. But you can’t ignore it’s significance and you really can’t ignore its amazing graphics. This game is sure to turn heads with its world building and general creative direction, giving a real edge during the conference.
9. Uncharted The Lost Legacy
Revealed at the PlayStation Experience last year, the story is now all about the fan favourite, Chloe, and her new partnership with Uncharted 4’s badass, Nadine. The full trailer revealed this year showed a whole lot of action in only a handful of minutes, with the Indian setting looking stunning, proving both a great way to showcase PS4’s Pro’s extra graphical output and Uncharted’s breath-taking backdrop. We can see from the trailer that Chloe and Nadine will surely be throwing themselves into danger on a loop. The game will arrive on the PS4 on the 22nd of August!
10. A Way Out
Another most talked about game was A Way Out. And we finally got a great first glimpse in this impressive so-op game from the genius who created the indie all-time classic, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. Yes, I cried whilst playing that game, which makes me really excited for A Way Out. This game circles around two guys who are planning a prison break and their adventures beyond, but the unique part to this game is its ingenious approach to the gameplay, and if you’ve played Brothers, you’ll know that A Way Out is sure to be another unique game. Watch the trailer above to see how unique it’s going to be!
11. Horizon Zero Dawn – The Frozen Wilds
One of the most exciting expansion announced during the conference was this game. As Game of Thrones enters winter, so does Horizon Zero Dawn and it’s heroine. Looks like there’s some new mechanical beasts to hunt, but we’re more curious about that mysterious mountain that makes all the robotic creatures all… shaky.
12. Anthem
Anyone who has seen the trailer knows this is going to be such a badass game. Hell, it was also the climactic closer at Microsoft’s show. Inspired by Destiny, this game will gave you and up to three friends playing as “Freelances” – humans in mechanical suits – as you go on explorations in an open world to do… well a bunch of exciting stuff. If you have not watched the trailer, I do suggest you do it now and enjoy the phenomenal graphics. We also hope, of course, that the game captures Bioware’s great knack of meaningful writing.
13. Metro Exodus
The Metro series has always been rich with immersive wonder and detailed atmosphere, and this latest addition to the series displays the power of the Xbox One X. The game is still a post-apocalyptic shooter but it’s now even more open as the gameplay shoes a much larger open environment with multiple routes to explore. We’re not entirely sure if the game is really an open-world game, but we’ll know more as we close up on its 2018 release.
14. Monster Hunter World
I’ve heard friends squeal about this, so I made sure not to leave this out. It’s been a while since the original game came out on the PSP, but this return to the brand showcases some amazing graphics and gameplay, revealing a tonne as you stalk creatures through shimmering lush forests. There’s also now a greater focus on stealth, using the fauna around you to create camouflage, enabling you to approach massive monsters. There’s also varying weapons/tools for you to use as the grappling hook and of course that giant sword on your back. Whilst it was not showcased, I’m sure you can expect to carve new armour and weapons from the beasts you’ve killed – I mean it wouldn’t be MH without that. Hunting when it arrives in early 2018!
I know I’ve left out others such as Destiny 2, Far Cry 5, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Super Mario Odyssey, South Park: The Fractured But Whole, Zelda’s new DLC, Middle Earth Shadow of War, the newest Diablo DLC which allows you to list diablo 2 items for sale within the game, The Evil Within 2, Skull & Bones, Skyrim VR, Fallout VR and soooo many more. But like most of my articles, I tend to pick things I’m excited for.
