We tend to reserve cocktails for when we’re at a bar to save us the hassle of having to make them ourselves. Often, you’ll find that you need a variety of ingredients and different bartending tools and skills to make them.
Here’s a list of five different cocktails you can try making yourself at home:
1. Pina Colada
Pina coladas are the perfect drink for a beachy holiday vibe, but don’t let that stop you from making them at home. The recipe is incredibly easy, just mix together pineapple juice, coconut cream and white rum in a 2:1:1 ratio. We recommend using Malibu rum when making this drink.
2. Gin & Tonic
As the name suggests, this drink is an easy mix of gin and tonic water, with a squeeze of lime juice. Use a ratio of 1:2 or 1:3 for gin:tonic water depending on how strong you want your drink. If you want to elevate your drink, add grapefruit juice and a sprig of rosemary.
You can add honey or simple syrup to sweeten this drink. It’s a perfect drink to pair with your dinner.
3. Sangria
This drink is the perfect thing for when you’re hosting an event such as a dinner party. It can be made and kept in a punch bowl or pitchers for your guests to serve themselves with. Muddle together fruit and brown sugar, before adding orange juice and brandy/rum and mix again. Then top off with a bottle of red wine and mix again.
4. Soju Popsicle
This is a non-traditional cocktail, but makes a great drink if you’re trying to make a drink without a strong alcoholic taste. Add a popsicle into a glass of soju and mix it until the popsicle has melted. Top it off with Sprite or soda.
5. Cosmopolitan
A cosmopolitan is one of the easiest drinks to make, with one of the best flavours. It makes a great drink for when you have friends over. Mix together a citron vodka with Cointreau, lime juice and cranberry juice in the ratio 2:1:1:1. Shake well and strain before serving.
