With all those hours spent meeting deadlines and studying, at times it is compulsory in a student’s life to just head out with some friends.
Does this sound familiar to you? Your friends are planning to head out, but having strict parents could be a problem in most households and at times the only thing that could get you their blessings to leave the house, is some good old-school excuses.
1. The famous “But everyone is going…”
Let’s be honest here, we’ve all said this at least once in our life, “But all of my friends are going…”, “Their parents let them go wor…” hoping that our parents would change their minds.
But in most situations their response would probably be “Am I your parent or am I their parent?” “Then next time ask them to be your parent lab!”
2. “It’s a holiday tomorrow!”
Having countless public holidays in Malaysia there is bound to be a time when we told our parents that since there is a holiday the next day, we are entitled to a night out.
The conversation usually ends up with them responding “It’s the Agong’s birthday, why must you go to the club for”?
3. “It’s my friend’s birthday.”
This excuse is the worst one yet, having strict parents we often have to provide full details, from which friend’s birthday it is, to where we’re going, and what time we’ll be home. But if they’re still suspicious they’ll even call up your friend’s parents just to “double-confirm”.
If you’re telling the truth, things might end up on your side but in most cases who are we kidding? It’s no one’s birthday.
4. “I powered through mid-terms”
Having gone through half of the semester, sometimes we just need to kick-back and relax. This excuse works well with a pouty mouth and a touch of puppy-dog eyes in hopes our parents would sympathise.
5. The Staggering Excuses
It’s late and you’re having an amazing time but your curfew is just around the corner, what do you do? Give more excuses to stay out longer. “Our car broke down on the way home!”, “My friend is drunk, there’s no grab drivers around at this hour!” Or even avoiding your parent’s calls!
Anything that will get you further away from your inevitable return to home and call it a night.
