Want to give back to the society but not quite sure where to start?
Here’s a list of NGOs in Malaysia which can not only point you at the right direction but also can help you to channel your energy for a greater good.
1. AIESEC Organization
Malaysian youths might have heard about this organization as it is frequently promoted in colleges and universities across Malaysia and overseas.

It is a nonprofit organization that is recognized by UNESCO. AIESEC provides youths with a chance to be a global volunteer whereby they can take part in voluntary work abroad and have a cross-cultural experience. The projects are all based on 17 UN global goals, so youths are able to be involved in projects like teaching, promoting HIV/AIDS awareness, human rights, environmental sustainable, leadership development and a lot more.
Participants are require to bare their own airfare, travelling, accommodation, and visa expenses incurred for the voluntary work. However, there are instances where some projects covers meal allowance, accommodation fees, or both. The standard duration of the each projects are averagely 6 weeks.
2. SEATRU
If you like beaches and want to be closer to the wildlife, you should really try this out!
This volunteer program allows participants to assist in monitoring, tagging and egg incubation research and conservation project for the sea turtles in Chagar Hutang Turtle Sanctuary, Redang Island. Participants will guided and supervised throughout the time by the SEATRU’s person in-charge.

This program usually runs from April to September each year, one slot only per week so you need to make reservation as early as possible. It’s always fully booked so if you miss your turn, you’ve got to wait till the next intake. From what we gathered, participants are able to fully immense in the experience as they will be fully disconnected from the outside world.
3. SPCA
SPCA is no stranger to many of us.
If you love animals, this is the place for you! There are many ways to volunteer here. You can choose to volunteer yourself in the E.R.A. Centre where you learn about the ways to take care of the pets and carry out some duties so that the pets can live comfortably just like the pets at home.
Other than that, you can involve yourself in Marketing and Communications Department or Events. Students can also choose to have their interns here.
4. EPIC Homes Project
EPIC, in this context, is short for Extraordinary People Impacting Community.
EPIC aims to build relationships between the urban and rural people through building homes for the underprivileged Malaysian communities, especially the Orang Asli.
This project emphasize a lot about building HOMES and not just HOUSES. People would always ask what’s the difference? House is just space to contain human, but with relationship and bonds between people creates home.
5. World Vision
Sometimes when you visit a mall, you will encounter a few people who will approach you for donations or ask you to sponsor a child. These people are mostly from World Vision.
This program aims to eliminate poverty and help children. You can choose to help by volunteering, giving donations or sponsoring a child. Volunteers also get to volunteer themselves in office administration, photo/videography, roadshows and logistic.
World Vision is also a great platform especially for youths as it widens up network and put your time into productive use.
