Although they are delicious to consume, carbonated drinks can cause effects to our health in the long term. With that being said, we’ve got some alternatives for anyone who intends on slowly cutting down on the fizzy drinks:
1. Flavoured water
Flavored water is an alternative for you to get your fruity-fill and your daily H2O-intake, it’s really easy to make too!
All you have to do is, cut up your favorite fruits and put them in a mason jar or a bottle, add some water and leave it in the fridge overnight. The sugars of the fruits will release itself and you’ll have a drink ready to go, that smells amazing and tastes great too!
Check out some of our recommended flavored-water recipes.
2. Fresh juice
Instead of processed sugars, try resorting to natural sugars from fruits and turn them into a juice. If you’re trying to cut back on your soda, yet crave the sugary taste, this could best suit you!
Fruit juices are always a good thing to start with in the morning (and water, of course). And if you’re feeling extra healthy, you can add a vegetable or two in your juice-concoction. If you’re feeling adventurous, try green juices.

4. Sparkling water
If you’re finding it hard to keep that soda intake down, try making your own sparkling water drinks!
Much like juices and flavored-water, you get to pick your combo of flavors that you’d like to pair up with. All you need is some sparkling water, and you can add your own flavors to it like honey instead of sugar!
5. Soy/Almond Milk
Switch to dairy altogether if you’re looking to cut those sodas out. Although dairy might cause your hormones to act up and some might might be prone to acne, there are plant-based dairies that you can consider too! Coconut milk, soy milk, almond milk and rice milk are a few of the options of plant-based dairies.
There are so many to go about, and get this, you can even make it yourself too! Check out this YouTube recipe here on how to make your own cashew milk!
6. Vitamin Water
While vitamin Water may come with a higher price tag in Malaysia, but it’s definitely 10 times better than your usual Coca-Cola or Sprite. With natural ingredients and many different flavors to choose from, drinking these goodness surely wouldn’t be a bore!
7. Smoothie
You might have underestimated that fruit purchase and maybe bought a little too much. What better way to use those extra fruits you’ve been storing than to cut them up, bag ’em, and throw them in the freezer!
Smoothies are a great way to get rid of excess purchased fruit and also really easy to make. Much like juices: all you need to do is to grab a combo of fruits that you like, add some dairy, and walah! You’re morning go-juice is ready for you.
There are many healthier alternatives than sodas, and with heart diseases becoming a more common threat to our health, we should take healthier precautions.
