The high-speed train from KL to Singapore may be shelved, but it’s not over for RTS!
Malaysians who work in Singapore are familiar with the commute to Singapore. Traffic jams, hours in immigration, and customs. One would have to get up very, very early to get to Singapore faster, sometimes as early as 4 AM.
The traffic can be so bad that it might take hours just to cross to one side! And that is made longer by customs and immigration – enough for you to have a mental breakdown!
However, this problem may be the thing of the past as during the tabling of the Budget 2020, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng announced that the government intends to proceed with the RTS Link as well as an investment of RM85 million by next year to address congestion at the Causeway and Second Link Crossing, with little to no details spared in regards to the project at the time of writing.
The 4km Johor Bahru to Singapore rail line will serve as an alternative for the two current causeway routes which serve the two countries. The station in Malaysia will be in Bukit Chagar, Johor while the station in Singapore will be in Woodlands North. With the construction of RTS, travel time is expected to be reduced by 30 minutes.
It is good to note that Woodlands North will be a starting point for the Thompson East Coast Line (TECL) an MRT line that will connect to ALL Singapore MRT line enabling you for a seamless, convenient and cheap travel throughout Singapore!
The most amazing thing: Thomson East Coast Line will bring you DIRECTLY to the famous Marina Bay Sands and Gardens by The Bay!
Upon completion, would you be using the RTS to travel to Singapore? Let us know at the comments!
