“To see the cycle of poverty broken in the lives of poor and underprivileged children, in both urban and rural settings, through the provision of holistic, child-centered, quality education,”
Following after a social enterprise cafe to support underprivileged children gain skill sets, Dignity for Children Foundation has recently launched a salon to expand their help for transformational enterprises.
Cut X Dignity is a full-fledged hair salon that also provides hairdressing training for underprivileged children. Every Wednesday and Thursday, the youths will be under training by professional hairstylists – for the other 5 days of the week, the salon is open for customers who’d like to get their hair done by the youths, under supervision of the professionals.
Dignity for Children Foundation achieves this by establishing high quality learning centres under one roof for the poor; implementing specialized learning environments to develop children academically and socially thus empowering them to become productive members of the society.
“All our students aged 15 and above are required to do our programmes such as gardening, carpentry, F&B, bakery, and also hairdressing. In one year they will obtain all these skill sets and they can choose which one to pursue,” Dignity chairman Rev Elisha Satvinder said.
Dignity, which turns 20 next year, now has over 1,000 underprivileged children in its programmes, ranging from 2-17 years old.
Many of the children had gone through the school and passed with O-level’s qualifications. Without Dignity’s education provisions, these underprivileged children would not be attending school and will be engaged with undesirable activities in the streets.
The learning centre prioritizes and provides quality care and education for pre-school to Form 5.
