There is an abundance of hairstylists in the hairdressing scene, but not many with an inspiring story as Lex Low, a barber that takes his skills to the streets.
When he was 16 years old, Lex Low pursued his dreams to be a hairstylist and has never looked back ever since. Being in the hairdressing industry for 14 years, the hairstylist-turned-barber questioned his profession a few years back and pondered the difference he could make with a pair of scissors.
“The question I constantly ask myself is how can I make a difference in this society through a pair of scissors? So I started going around to the different homes giving free haircuts to the elderly, the orang asli, and the underprivileged,”
“One day I decided on bringing a bigger impact by taking it to the streets and providing the homeless with a haircut and getting them cleaned up. This initiative has grown to a larger scale and many people have benefited from this,”
With 14 years in the hairdressing industry, 30-year-old Lex Low volunteers in a regular basis by cutting hair for the homeless and currently runs a programme to educate refugees on how to cut hair.
“I have a vision, which is to make this world a better place through a pair of scissors. This is expressed through my barbershop , be it to my staff, my clients , the homeless community and most importantly to the underprivileged students that I am teaching,”
Lex founded his first ever barbershop, OTHRS and even produces his own homemade products! One thing that he could never leave home without is his Lequiff & Co. Strong Hold Pomade. Specially designed to stand against our humid weather here in Malaysia, your hair is guaranteed to look sleek throughout the day.
When asked what is his ultimate quote that he firmly stands by, we could clearly see how Lex Low is a well-established barber with a heart full of compassion for people and charity. He is definitely changing lives, one snip at a time.
“I can’t change the world, but I can start by someone’s world,”
