Directed by Niki Caro, who previously directed ‘The Zookeeper’s Wife’, the remake is based on Disney’s 1998 animated feature film about a Chinese woman who cleverly impersonates a man to serve the Imperial Army to prevent her ailing father for joining the military.
And of course, it is inspired by an actual legendary Chinese historic warrior – Hua Mulan, in which her stories now still serve as important historical lessons across China.
Crystal Liu, better known as Liu Yifei, will play the lead role in ‘Mulan’, whereas superstar actor, Donnie Yen, best known for his epic character as ‘Ip Man’, will be the cast as Commander Tung – Mulan’s teacher and mentor.
The movie also feature top Chinese actors like Jet Li, who acts as the Emperor of China. Following with a twist of the original film, the film will feature certain new characters like Böri Khan, Cheng Honghui, and Xianniang, while losing a few old favourites – Mulan’s sidekick duo: Cri-Kee the cricket, and Mushu the tiny red dragon.
