Superstar DJ Soda whose real name is So Hee Hwang, was in town lately and posts a picture while standing in front of the Twin Towers- one of Malaysia’s many pride and glory. DJ Soda wore a baju Kebaya just like how we Malaysians would head over to Korea and put on the Korean Hanbok and take pictures all around, It’s all in good fun no?
Well as it turns out, NO!
Because debates between her Malaysian and Indonesian fans have broke out on the origin of the Baju Kebaya and not on whether or not it is alright of her to wear the Baju Kebaya (which is 100% cool), some of her Indonesian followers also claimed that not only is the Baju Kebaya Indonesian, but even THE KLCC belongs to Indonesia?!
Malaysians were quick to retaliate, some with a dignified manner while others letting out a barrage of profanities over and over. But I digress, while the Baju Kebaya IS of Indonesian origin, ask any of our native Malays and they will all say the same thing, the ladies would wear the Baju Kebaya as it has been part of Malay culture for so long! Plus, important p.p.s other countries have natives who wear the Baju Kebaya too, such as Singapore, Brunei, southern parts of Thailand and even the Philippines.
While the talk about the Baju Kebaya was happening, imagine someone standing up and saying “the KLCC is Indonesian” and everyone just looking at the person like “wat”*. Because that is exactly how it went down. *Writer’s interpretation of the events.
All in all, I think we Malaysians can firmly and confidently say that the KLCC belongs to Malaysia and IS IN Malaysia as we look up from almost anywhere in KL, even from the General hospital Kuala Lumpur.
And the post that started it all? Well that’s down below.
With a very simple and harmless statement saying that Dj Soda is enjoying Malaysia and her fish eye lenses that she bought for 20 Ringgit.
