Yup! You heard that right!
Instagram and Facebook are cleaning up their emoji garden a little. If you are someone who uses these emojis for the intended purposes, then this will not affect you anyway, but if you’re like many of us who use these emojis where there is a sexually suggestive connotation behind it.
Don’t worry, I’m sure we all have used it once or twice. This might be bad news for you.
Whoever said that we can’t just be entirely honest-to-god to each other on Instagram? That’s how we should be from now ons with our DM’s on Instagram and facebook. Facebook and Instagram banned 3 emojis. The water drip emoji, the eggplant emoji, and the peach emoji.
Facebook and Instagram have both claimed that the emoji are a little too sexually suggestive and needs to be banned.
A source from Facebook explained: “People use Facebook to discuss and draw attention to sexual violence and exploitation.
“We recognize the importance of and want to allow for this discussion. We draw the line, however, when content facilitates, encourages or coordinates sexual encounters between adults.
“We also restrict sexually explicit language that may lead to solicitation because some audiences within our global community may be sensitive to this type of content and it may impede the ability for people to connect with their friends and the broader community.”
You will still be able to use the following emojis in your captions, but your photo will be taken down if it is found to be used in a sexually suggestive manner
Currently, it is still unsure how Facebook and Instagram will determine whether or not the use of the emoji is in a sexually suggestive manner, but it could probably rely on users reporting the posts and sent to the moderators.
Instagram has already banned the water drip, peach and eggplant emoji. It’s only a matter of time before they also ban the banana, carrot, hotdog, taco, & donut emoji.
Let us know if they made a good choice banning the emojis in the comments below.
