When David Bowie asked the question, ‘Is there Life on Mars?’ who would have thought that it would be Far Cry 5 that answered?
The Ubisoft-published first person shooter is getting another piece of downloadable content (DLC). This time, the setting is being changed to planet Mars. Yes. That Mars.
While the previous DLC also took players away from the default setting of Montana to a Vietnam-themed setting and story in ‘Heart of Darkness’, this one aims to take players even further.
‘Lost on Mars’ sees you, Hurk and Nick Rye from Far Cry 5 head to Mars to stop an alien invasion.
This means all new sci-fi themed equipment with names like Blaster of Disaster (which is a fantastic band name), and Morphinator (which sounds like a Terminator bootleg movie from China).
The DLC will also introduce some new weapons to Hope County so you go around shooting people and taking over bases using weapons with names like ‘Taser Phaser Annihilazer’, which again is a fantastic name for a punk rock band.
Players can purchase this DLC for $10 (or around RM40), with the season pass being sold for $30 (which is around RM121).
Far Cry has always been a game that took us to exotic and/or hostile locales to varying degrees of success.
So with this DLC, one can’t help but wonder if this is a low-key test for a potential future Far Cry game where we might be visiting the ‘exotic locale’ of outer space.
Would this be too much of a deviation for Far Cry? Or is space simply the final frontier to explore for Far Cry fans? Time will tell.
In the meantime, it is worth noting that the next and final piece of DLC called ‘Dead Living Zombies’ is set to be released next month.
Three guesses on what that one’s about.
