Remember when we wrote about the Canadian rapper Drake released his new album, Scorpion?
Well, he’s back in the news again but this time, for a meme-related reason.
The story goes that the new trend, known as the ‘In My Feelings’ challenge was started by a comedian named Shiggy.
How it works is that participants shoot a video of themselves dancing with the exact same moves to Drake’s new song, In My Feelings from his album, Scorpion.
Shiggy initially started the trend by tagging it #DoTheShiggy but the dance has since blown up and morphed beyond his original design.
In just a few weeks, the dance became a full-blown meme with the #InMyFeelings hashtag on Instagram having more than 200,000 posts under it.
Add to that the fact that people got creative and started jumping out of moving cars while doing the dance. (The cars weren’t moving at a high speed, just so we’re clear.)
Oh Internet, never change.
It’s not just amateurs and influencers getting in on the trend though. Celebrities are also throwing their hat in with their own renditions of the dance.
Here’s Will Smith doing the dance on a bridge. Yes. A bridge.
Here’s Sterling K. Brown and his wife putting their own spin on it.
Here’s our very own Melissa Thng doing her version of it.
Here’s Janna Nick also doing the challenge, car and all. With multiple camera angles and all, the production quality is quite high on this one.
And here’s Johanis putting her spin on it. There’s a car in this one, even if it wasn’t moving.
Seems like this challenge requires a bit more effort than the Mannequin challenge, what with the dancing and the cars and whatnot.
That being said, what do you think, dear readers?
Is this an interesting trend to jump on and try, challenging your friends? Or is it yet another weird thing that’s gone viral that makes no sense to you?
We’d love to hear what you think of it and whether you would consider trying it out for yourselves.
We at Sevenpie find the dance quite endearing and cute, but would urge everyone trying it to always consider safety first.
