Hashtag throwback to the 50s?
The past few months have been very difficult for the world including South Korea with 9,200 coronavirus cases reported. Thankfully, the situation in South Korea has plummeted in the recent week when authorities urged the public to stay at home.
On March 21st 2020, an outdoor screen was playing a movie at the drive-through cinema in Seoul. Though the city is called to avoid mass gathering, there was a long queue of cars in front of the Park Dong Ju’s drive-in cinema. Now, moviegoers can enjoy film from the comfort of their own cars, without contact and risk of passing germs and bacteria onto other families.
Park made a statement saying “We’ve had a 10-20% increase in sales for weekdays, and sell out on weekends. We’re definitely getting more calls and internet enquiries after the coronavirus outbreak.” Not only that, the website for his drive in theatre also features a large banner that reads, “Open throughout the year.”
A 22-yea- old hospital worker, Choi Jin-Young, said that she was in line waiting for almost two hours before she could enter and became worried that it might sell out for the weekend. According to Free Malaysia Today, she also said, “I wanted to enjoy culture life with my boyfriend but since cinemas are dangerous and worrying to go, I looked for a special date and that’s how we came here,”
However, the South Korean Prime Minister Chung Sye Kyun has urged all religious, indoor sport and entertainment facilities to stop operations for 15 days, stabilizing the number of the outbreak.
