The decision has been effective since March 4th, and people are surprised.
Are you in need of a holiday? Well, you are in luck: the Kedah State Government has just implemented a new initiative in hopes to boost the tourism sector of the State.
Kedah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir has announced to The Star that all hotel fees in Langkawi will be waived for six months, beginning March 4, 2020. Can you believe that?
This is because the State of Kedah, especially Langkawi, has seen a massive drop in the number of international tourist arrivals, and the government has been looking to alternate markets to increase their tourism sector.
He explained that many flights into the State were from China, however the numbers have been dwindling due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.
As part of an ongoing plan to mitigate the economic impact of COVID-19 in the country, the government has established the 2020 Economic Stimulus Package on Feb 27.
The RM20 billion economic stimulus package is underpinned by three strategies that address the impact of COVID-19, stimulate people-centred growth and encourage quality investment.
While Langkawi’s hotel online prices have yet to reflect this decision, rest assured that this decision is real and you could be in for a holiday soon!
