In recent years, mental health is often associated with cyberbullying, among many other genetic and domestical factors.
In a statistic shared by Comparitech, Malaysia was ranked the 6th in the world where parents reported that their child has been a victim of cyberbullying, which also makes Malaysia as the number 1 country in Asia for this arena!
Aside from Breast Cancer Month, October 10th is a day dedicated for Mental Health Awareness. Sure enough, there were a surge of people who took it online to share about their own experiences dealing with mental health issues, with some showing their support for anyone dealing with mental health issues and bringing awareness towards this pressing social epidemic.
Here are 5 people who shared their thoughts and stories:
1. Adele Chow
Adele took it to YouTube recently to share her personal story on how the passing of her beloved mother has affected her mental well-being. To quote the entrepreneur, “I went through this period feeling stuck, but not knowing how to grief”.
It took a great deal of courage before she could finally seek professional help. As she is now in a better state of mind, Adele made it a point to render her help to people who’s going through the same thing.
2. Gaston Pong
The singer took it to Instagram to share about his battle with depression. He shared about his days in high school and elementary school where he was often ridiculed. Fast forward to present day, Gaston, who is pursuing his career in show business had to deal with a handful of impediments, and how this too has affected him.
The young artist shared about his experiences in seeking professional help, and urges his followers to spread more love than hate on the Internet.
3. Isabelle Choo
Isabelle is a young entrepreneur who also took it to Instagram to talk about her battle with major depressive disorder. A sexually assaulted victim herself, Isabelle talked about how it took her 2 years to finally speak to someone before her attempted suicide in 2015. The beautiful lass ended the note by offering help to any of her followers.
4. Narelle Kheng
Narelle Kheng is a Singaporean-based artist who channels her music from her battle with depression. According to an interview done by Zula.sg, Narelle shared about seeing a therapist and stopped because she wanted to fix herself.
The young artist shared some of the advice that helped her, saying “My therapist told me to talk to the little girl inside me, instead of the adult.” She added that there’s a young person inside every one of us that needs healing. and talking kindly to that young person helps them grow up.
5. Nicholas Chia
Nicholas took it to Instagram to share a rather fashion-directed post with his friend, but with a caption that explains the struggles and hardships his friend went through. Though he’s not someone who has experienced mental illness, Nicholas shares his experience about how teachers too can disregarding the very existence of mental health issues.
Nicholas also urges his followers to talk to someone they trust most in time of need, and offered his help to anyone out there who needs it.
