The topic of imposition of travel ban by National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) was brought up again recently…
But our Education Minister, Dr Maszlee Malik reassured public that it was just a misunderstanding.
That’s a huge relief to all the PTPTN borrowers (for now) but here are some other clarifications stated by Maszlee regarding the issue as well:
1. Public Opinion
They are currently only seeking suggestions from the public and imposing the travel ban is just one of the feedbacks, but they understand that majority of Malaysians do not agree to that.
2. Buying Time
They will also try their best to help all the young borrowers by sparing them some time before they get a secure job and will be financially capable to start paying back their loans.
3. Renewing Certificates of Identifications
Another proposal idea came from the discussion with stakeholders is to ban defaulters from renewing their passports, driving licenses and road tax.
4. Trust Official Statements Only
Maszlee also urged the public to only trust the official statement given out by the Education Ministry and not simply fall for wrong speculations made by the media.
5. Finalising Date
The outcome of PTPTN’s move will be out in July after finalizing with all the ongoing public consultation.
Now you can also take part in the public consultation and submit your suggestion online here.
