‘I can’t do it’
According to Oriental Daily, Godfrey was running halfway while shooting around midnight at 2a.m. on Wednesday, November 27, claiming that he ‘can’t do it,’ before he fell onto the ground. The reality TV staff thought that his fall was part of the program but then realized that something was wrong so the medical team rushed to the rescue.
There were also reports saying that his heart had stopped beating but started beating again after a few minutes, and the superstar was sent to the hospital.
Unfortunately, after close to three hours of medical care, they could not revive the 35-year-old actor.
Godfrey was pronounced dead and the hospital mentioned that the cause of death was sudden cardiac death. He had always maintain his health and does a lot of exercises. However, the chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at National Taiwanese University Hospital Fang Cheng-Chung speculated that the sudden cardiac death experienced by Godfrey was likely to be caused by staying up late and overworking.
The chairman said that overwork and staying up late will end up causing a lot of stress to the body, which can lead to an elevated amount of stress hormones that can result in high blood pressure, heart rhythm disturbances, and vasoconstriction.
Added together with the lack of sleep, this can culminate in an acute cardiovascular event even though the person keeps his or her lifestyle healthy by consuming a balanced diet and exercising.
According to a report by Sohu China, many people, and artists included who worked on the Chinese TV Program claimed that the filming process for ‘Chase Me’ was very strenuous, intense, and tiring. Participants would need to work from 8.30 a.m until the next day about 5a.m to 6a.m! That is super late!
Moreover, they were also required to perform high-intensity physical activities such as night running which undoubtedly strains the body.
This is not the first time that Zhejiang Television, the television channel responsible for ‘Chase Me’, has been involved in a scandal. Previously, Zhang Jie, a Chinese pop singer participated in the variety show ‘Ace vs Ace’, and he suffered from facial bruising due to the carelessness of the company. Plus, a diving assistant of Chen Xiaolong drowned during a diving reality show. OMG!
RIP Godfrey Gao. Thank you for your wonderful contribution and creative acts in the entertainment industry and you will be deeply missed!
