The CW is the home to many TV shows based around DC comic characters. From Arrow, Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and Black Lightning to name a few. Despite its fluctuating quality, there is definitely a superhero TV boom going on at the network and fans are excited for what the future holds.
Enter Batwoman! The interesting and enigmatic female vigilante is finally heading to live action! She is to be played by Ruby Rose!
Before we continue, let’s go over the basics of who Batwoman is so we’re all on the same page. And no, she is not ‘grown up Batgirl’.
Kate Kane was a member of the US army who had to leave the armed forces under their controversial “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy due to her orientation. After a tumultuous time dealing with the fallout of this defining moment, she eventually started her career as the vigilante named Batwoman.
Though she was not officially part of the so-called ‘Bat Family’ like heroes such as Nightwing, Robin, and Batgirl, she eventually met Batman who gave her his blessing… after a heated argument. Since then, she has been operating as a solo vigilante in Gotham.

In any case, Ruby Rose is known for her roles in Orange is the New Black and John Wick 2, among other things. She is also in the recent shark movie, the Meg.
The current plan by the CW is to have some of their heroes go to Gotham City on an adventure and run into Batwoman. If the network decides to give her a solo series, it will see Batwoman operating in Gotham as an independent crime fighter.
This is exciting for many reasons, one of which is the fact that Gotham is Batman’s city. Could we possibly see the Caped Crusader make an appearance? Even if he doesn’t, his fantastic rogues’ gallery of villains might. We might end up seeing old favourites such as the Riddler or Two Face, or maybe even the Joker make an appearance, though that last one is quite unlikely.
The major takeaway from this story is the fact that both bringing Batwoman onto the CW in her own show, and casting Ruby Rose is a great step forward for diversity and representation in media. Batwoman is quite a high profile character in certain communities and has many fans who cannot wait to see her make her debut.
So what do you think, dear readers? Are you looking forward to Ruby Rose don the mantle of Batwoman? Or are there other heroes or heroines you’d like to see come to life?
