2004 was pretty much a life changing year for us all when Stephen Chow made cinematic history with his off-the-wall cult classic, Kung Fu Hustle.
Not only was the critically acclaimed film packed with hilariously inventive action-packed sequences, the world also had a peek into the actor-director’s whimsical imagination.
One cannot deny this movie its greatness, not especially when this iconic character is the subject of everyone’s interest every time the movie title is mentioned.
We are not worthy of your presence queen! All hail the domineering landlady!
If you’ve watched the film, you’ll know that this lady here is the baddest person on Pig Sty Alley. Why? Known for being a loud-mouth lady dressed in a nightgown with hair curlers on 24/7, she takes no orders from anyone. She is also not to be messed with unless you’d like to feel the wrath of her sickening kung fu moves.
For those of you who longed for another movie like this, you’re in for a nostalgic treat as Stephen Chow himself has confirmed that a second instalment is on its way!
During an interview to promote his brand new film, The New King of Comedy, he revealed that the sequel is to be in the works once he completes new project, a sequel to his 2016 film, The Mermaid – the fourth highest-grossing film of all time in China.
Ironically, Chow will not be the one to whoop people’s butts this time around, but instead would be the one to be beaten up instead.
“I might consider playing a cameo role as someone who gets beaten up in the movie. I can’t fight that well anymore seeing that my age doesn’t allow me to play a role of a tough guy, agile in his fighting actions,” he explains.
As for the plot line, it will not be a direct sequel to the first movie but a “spiritual follow up” where it will have a modern story set in a foreign country and a female lead is most likely to be featured.
Let’s hope that the upcoming movie will inherit Kung Fu Hustle’s foolish charm and for Yuen Qiu (landlady) to make a cameo or be granted another unforgettable role!
Feeling stoked yet? So are we! What is your favorite Stephen Chow movie?
