Over the last weekend, local cocktail enthusiasts were treated to the unique tastes of drinks made by the famed Hiroyasu Kayama from Japan.
Known as ‘the alchemist’, the award winning bartender Hiroyasu Kayama hails from Bar BenFiddich, Shinjuku, Tokyo.
He is known for his fantastic hand-crafted cocktails that use all manner of unique and exotic spices and herbs.

The event was held at THREE X CO in Bangsar, with a two drink minimum purchase for entry.
Kayama wowed attendees not just by mixing all manner of cocktails but also by his artistry in doing so, with his signature style of mixing drinks, along with the fact that he grinds the herbs and spices on the spot.
He also created a special ‘Malaysian Jungle Bird’ cocktail in his signature style.
For those who missed it, Kayama’s work can be seen in its full serene beauty on YouTube. The videos are not only interesting to watch but relaxing to listen to as well, almost like an ASMR video.
Here he is, making a cocktail out of hot butter because of course he can do that.
He uses everything from laboratory-grade beakers to pestle and mortar to craft his drinks which are levels above anything available in most bars.
Honestly, it feels more accurate to call his drinks ‘potions’ or ‘tinctures’ rather than simply ‘cocktails’.
Kayama hosted his event at 8PM of the 7th July until 12AM of the 8th of July.
